Loss of a Great Leader

As many of you know our community lost a great citizen on October 8, 2022. Kay Koop was not only the fearless leader of Helping Hands of Jackson county but a valued member of the Jackson County Master Gardeners and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Kay spent many hours toiling away in the soil at the Educational Gardens and in her own backyard garden. She had extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna of our South Texas.

Monday and Thursday mornings you could find Kay behind her desk at Helping Hands. She greeted each client with a smile and helped with a happy heart. She was happy to help anyone who asked as long as the funds were available. She would also find a way to share the Lord with clients.

During COVID Kay was adamant about keeping Helping Hands open. Even tought the office was closed Volunteers screened clients over the phone and a pickup method was created. Clients were not allowed to come into the building but volunteers set food boxes and vouchers outside when they came to pick them up. As COVID numbers decreased the office was once again open. Kay was dedicated to helping as many clients as possible during this time!

Kay is greatly missed. Each day going forward is a day to celebrate Kay and her servants heart! She listened to the Lord and followed His commandments.

Please feel free to stop in at Helping Hands and share your memories of Kay with our staff. We would love to hear them!
